Residents’ Memories

Residents’ Memories

Vacarro Family
Carmela Vaccaro, matriarch of one of the oldest and biggest families in the town, celebrating her 80th birthday, is shown with her family, which includes six children, 43 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Carmela Vaccaro is shown in the second row, center, holding Matthew Kelly, her great grandson. (As published in the Eastchester Record on Jan. 26, 1984.)

In addition to the collections of original records and historians’ published materials, local residents were invited to offer their own recollections of lives well lived in Eastchester, Tuckahoe or Bronxville. These memories took the shape of oral histories, photographs, essays and poems of 1000 words or less.
