Francis X. O’Rourke

FXOFrancis Xavier O’Rourke

Supervisor, 1/1/1953 – 9/30/1970

No history of the Town of Eastchester would be complete without mention of the name Francis Xavier O’Rourke, the son of Irish immigrants.  Born on December 4 1901, in what is now the Village of Tuckahoe, O’Rourke served as Town Supervisor from 1953 until his untimely death in 1970.

Under his aegis as Town Supervisor the old Oakridge Country Clubhouse was purchased and became our signature Town Hall, a state of the art library was built on Oakridge Place.  He was instrumental in the construction of our prestigious Little League Field and spear headed the development of the Vernon Hills Shopping Center with Lord and Taylor as the flagship store.  He was also Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Supervisors from 1960 thru 1969.

He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish where in 1936 he married Margaret Muriel Bellew, raising 4 sons.  He is sorely missed by his family and the townspeople who knew him.

Francis Xavier O’Rourke, Jr.
